Brief Description:
The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth is pleased to announce “The Emerging Leaders in Biosecurity (ELBI) Fellowship” to inspires and connects the next generation of leaders and innovators in the biosecurity community. Students who are currently enrolled in or have graduated from a masters or doctoral program are eligible to apply for the fellowship. The Emerging Leaders in Biosecurity (ELBI) Fellowship inspires and connects the next generation of leaders and innovators in the biosecurity community. 28 fellows accepted into each class, 24 are typically US citizens, 2 are UK citizens, and 2 are Canadian citizens.
Host Institution:
The Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth is a gifted education program for school-age children founded in 1979 by psychologist Julian Stanley at Johns Hopkins University. The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security works to protect people’s health from the consequences of epidemics and disasters and to make communities more resilient to major challenges.
Eligibility:
To receive the ELBI Fellowship, a beneficiary must:
- A citizen of the United States, United Kingdom, or Canada (Australian citizens will be considered if they live in the United States) and
- Currently enrolled in or have graduated from a masters or doctoral program in the past 3 years or has at least 1 year of professional experience in national security, public health, medicine, biotechnology, or a related field

- Personal statement, it will not exceed 500 words, in which you describe your interest in exploring a career in biosecurity.
- 2 letters of recommendation on your behalf from academic advisors and/or professional supervisors (include their contact information).
- Essay, not to exceed 1,000 words, that describes a current technical or policy issue in biosecurity that interests you, and why you believe it is important.
- Current resume or CV.

The Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security covers travel expenses (air and ground), meals, and lodging for the two workshops and the symposium.
